How to Batch Upload Gallery Images on Squarespace 7.1

In this article, I am going to continue my series on ‘What is new in Squarespace 7.1’. See my article from last week, the first in the series, called ‘What is new in Squarespace 7.1’ to learn more about the overall benefits of switching to Squarespace 7.1.

Recently someone asked the question ‘Is it true that adding images to a gallery from My Library can only be done one at a time? Or what am I missing?’ so I created a video (see below) and this blog post to answer your question.

The short answer is you do not have to upload images one at a time to a Squarespace gallery. Whew! You can batch upload images to your gallery and you can batch delete images from your gallery. Here’s how:

How to Batch Upload Images to Squarespace Galleries

Step 1. Open the page on your Squarespace website where you have your gallery.

Step 2. Click the pencil icon to edit the images in the gallery.

Step 3. Click the plus icon in the upper right of the pop-up window.

Step 4. Click ‘Upload Images’.

Step 5. In the Finder window click the first image you want, hold down the Shift key and click the last.image you want. If all the image you want are not in order, hold the Command key and deselect the images you don’t want.

Step 6. Click the Save button and you will see the images uploading into your gallery.

How to Batch Delete Images From Your Squarespace Gallery

Step 1. Open the page on your Squarespace website where you have your gallery.

Step 2. Click the pencil icon to edit the images in the gallery.

Step 3. Select the first image closest to the upper left that you want to delete.

Step 4. Hold the ‘Shift’ key down and select the last image.

Step 5. Hit the ‘Delete’ button

That’s it!

One thing to note is that Squarespace keeps the images in your library permanently at the time of writing this. So the good thing about that is if you delete the images accidentally, you can get them back. The annoying thing is that you can’t delete images that are flawed or that you are sure you no longer want. This is a feature Squarespace designers have been requesting repeatedly for at least the past year, so hopefully it will be available at some point soon.

I started my career as a UI/UX designer in New York City. Later, I moved to Berlin, Germany to pursue my art career and live a more bohemian lifestyle. After three years in Berlin, I returned to the United States for graduate school. Following my MFA, I began teaching web and graphic design, photography, and video the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nebraska Wesleyan University and Metro Community College.

In 2018 I left my tenure track position at Nebraska Wesleyan University, to pursue The Unknown! That year I did my first triathlon, founded an artist residency program at a state park in Iowa, performed in Seattle and hiked the 273 mile Vermont Long Trail. In the subsequent years I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, Colorado Trail and half of the Continental Divide Trail. Following clues that appeared during the downtime led me to founding Expansive Media. I am super excited to be able to combine my tech and art skills through Expansive Media. I am also able to incorporate my passion for well-being and community by working with clients who make the world a better place.
