5 Simple Ways to Boost Social Media Engagement

Frustrated with the lack of engagement on your profile? We have five easy solutions to keep your brand top-of-mind on Facebook and Instagram.

Social media is one of the best ways to increase awareness of your business, but many entrepreneurs find themselves overwhelmed, confused and hopeless when it comes to figuring out their social media strategy.

I know, because I’ve been there. For me, social media is a mixed bag. It can be a time suck and depressing. It can also be inspirational and a way of connecting with people who are important to me. It is also a fantastic way to network and stay top-of-mind while quarantining.

Importance of a Social Media Strategy

I recommend that you wait to add another platform until you know that you have the time to keep it up-to-date or the budget to hire someone (maybe Expansive Media???) to manage it for you.

If you are posting on social media it is important that you are doing it strategically to maximize your efforts and build your business. Random posting, commenting, liking and networking just adds stress to your life and everyone else’s.

How to Build Awareness on Social Media

When building brand awareness, it’s important to develop trust with your audience and show that you provide a solution to a challenge they’ve encountered. Social media allows you to nurture that relationship by delivering value to your audience instantly.

If you are using socials for your business, here are 5 quick ways to increase engagement:

  1. Create savable content

Pack posts full of important information and education that your audience will want to refer back to later.

  2. Talk about political issues.

Audiences want to know where brands stand on political and social issues—make sure your stance aligns with your brand mission.

  3. Be relatable

No one goes to a (zoom) cocktail party and pitches partygoers their products and services all night. Add in some humor and relatability with memes, GIFs and fun anecdotes.

  4. Interact strategically

Find other similar businesses or your ideal customer by exploring social media. Keep a list handy and make a commitment to genuinely engage at least once a week. People will notice and so will the social media ranking machines!

  5. Get on camera

Video performs exponentially better than static images on social media. Most people are nervous and hesitant to film themselves at first. I encourage you to start posting one 30-second video each week. The nerves will eventually disappear!

You can take your business to the next step with a clear and coordinated plan!

I am a front-end web designer, photographer, and conceptual artist. I hold an MFA in Art & Design from the University of Michigan and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I started my career as a UI/UX designer in New York City. Later, I moved to Berlin, Germany to pursue my art career and live a more bohemian lifestyle. After three years in Berlin, I returned to the United States for graduate school. Following my MFA, I began teaching web and graphic design, photography, and video the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nebraska Wesleyan University and Metro Community College.

In 2018 I left my tenure track position at Nebraska Wesleyan University, to pursue The Unknown! That year I did my first three triathlons, founded an artist residency program at a state park in Iowa, performed in Seattle and hiked the 273 mile Vermont Long Trail. After all of that, I returned to Lincoln to decompress and process. Following clues that appeared during the downtime led me to founding Expansive Media. I am super excited to be able to combine my tech and art skills through Expansive Media. I am also able to incorporate my passion for well-being and community by working with clients who make the world a better place.
