Whether you’re a product-based business or sell services, you can align your email marketing to position your offer as a solution without that icky salesy feeling.

8 Winning Email Marketing Strategies

When customers opt into your email list, they need a push and reassurance that they should buy your product or service. You can qualify your offer and mitigate any purchasing hesitations with a variety of email strategies. They fall into these three categories: exclusive offers, social proof, tailored advice.

EXCLUSIVE OFFERS

  1. Free trial

    • Including a free trial in your sales emails allows your customer to dip their toe, experience your amazing product and will, ultimately, feel compelled to purchase instantly.

  2. Time-based offers

    • For example: email reminders, that include a limited-time discount code, are an effective time-based offer for e-commerce companies. Emphasize the urgency in this offer.

  3. Discount codes

    • Discount codes aren’t only for e-commerce brands; service-based businesses can also employ discount codes. Provide a discount for your services through any of these types of emails: refer-a-friend affiliate program, loyal client’s birthday or seasonal sale.

  4. Free shipping

    • If you offer free shipping as a product-based business, emphasize this deal in your sales emails.

SOCIAL PROOF

  1. Testimonials

    • Reviews from current and past clients are a great way to show social proof. Ninety-five percent of customers read reviews before making a purchase decision online.

  2.  Case studies

    • Show the journey of how you took a client from a baseline and exceed their goals. Outline the methods you implement and show exactly how your past clients benefitted.

TAILORED ADVICE

  1. Webinars or Q&A sessions

    • Hold webinars and Q&A sessions as opportunities to position yourself as the expert — show how your specific knowledge, experience and skill set will help any wavering potential clients.

  2. Free consultations

    • For anyone who’s considering hiring you, utilize the free trial tactic with consultations. Allow a free 30-minute consultation to show the potential client all that you have to offer.

Sarah Berkeley

I am a front-end web designer, photographer, and conceptual artist. I hold an MFA in Art & Design from the University of Michigan and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I started my career as a UI/UX designer in New York City. Later, I moved to Berlin, Germany to pursue my art career and live a more bohemian lifestyle. After three years in Berlin, I returned to the United States for graduate school. Following my MFA, I began teaching web and graphic design, photography, and video the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nebraska Wesleyan University and Metro Community College.

In 2018 I left my tenure track position at Nebraska Wesleyan University, to pursue The Unknown! That year I did my first triathlon, founded an artist residency program at a state park in Iowa, performed in Seattle and hiked the 273 mile Vermont Long Trail. In the subsequent years I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, Colorado Trail and half of the Continental Divide Trail. Following clues that appeared during the downtime led me to founding Expansive Media. I am super excited to be able to combine my tech and art skills through Expansive Media. I am also able to incorporate my passion for well-being and community by working with clients who make the world a better place.
